Course Description
When elimination, substitution, engineering, and administrative controls aren’t sufficient or practical, employers must provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safeguard employees and ensure its proper use. PPE refers to gear worn to reduce exposure to workplace hazards. Common examples include gloves, foot and eye protection, hearing devices like earplugs and earmuffs, hard hats, respirators, and full-body suits. Keep in mind that PPE is considered a last line of defense in hazard control—not the primary solution. Some employers mistakenly rely too heavily on PPE rather than addressing hazards at their source.
This course delivers a general overview and does not cover every workplace hazard or specific PPE requirement. The information is based on OSH Center’s regulations for PPE as outlined in 29 CFR 1910, Subpart I – Personal Protective Equipment for general industry.
