This course offers an introduction to the role of industrial hygienists in assessing workplace health risks. You’ll learn about the tools and techniques used to monitor environmental conditions and analyze potential hazards. The course also covers how these professionals evaluate worker exposure and recommend effective strategies to reduce or eliminate health risks.

TO 1.0 Achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the final course exam.
LO 1.1.1 Explain the concept of industrial hygiene and the role of industrial hygienists in employee protection.
LO 1.1.2 Identify and describe hazard control and exposure mitigation methods according to the “Hierarchy of Controls.”
LO 1.1.3 List at least five common air contaminants that impact air quality both indoors and outdoors.
LO 1.1.4 Define “toxic” and explain the four main routes through which toxic chemicals enter the body.
LO 1.2.1 Describe biological hazards found in general industry and construction, including biological agents and toxins.
LO 1.2.2 Identify common physical hazards such as noise, lighting, extreme temperature/humidity, radiation, and ergonomic factors affecting workers.
