Hazardous drugs, such as those used for cancer chemotherapy, antiviral treatments, and hormone regimens, pose a serious health hazard to healthcare workers.

This course takes a closer look at several different hazardous materials and medications that healthcare workers may be exposed to daily, as well as ways to protect themselves from serious health issues.

Course Objectives
At the end of this course, you should be able to:

LO 1.1.2 Identify the various jobs within healthcare that expose employees to hazardous chemicals at work.
LO 1.1.3 Describe the primary Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requirements.
LO 1.1.4 Describe the “Hierarchy of Controls” and the basic control methods listed in the hierarchy.
LO 1.1.5 Discuss the hazards and effects of acute and chronic exposure to chemicals including ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, mercury, and waste anesthetic gases.
