Introduction

Description

tairways and ladders are among the leading causes of workplace injuries and fatalities.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 161 workplace fatalities related to ladder use in 2020, including 105 deaths from portable ladders and 5 from fixed ladders. That same year, 22,710 nonfatal ladder-related injuries resulted in at least one day away from work. The highest injury rates occurred in installation, maintenance, and repair (5,790 injuries), construction and extraction (5,370 injuries), and service occupations (3,160 injuries). Most of these incidents were preventable through proper training, safe work practices, and compliance with safety standards.
