This course introduces the student to the basic types of personal protective equipment, fall protection equipment, and lifesaving equipment.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

ID Objective
TO 1.0 Achieve a minimum score of 70% on the final course assessment.
LO 1.1.1 Discuss employer and employee responsibilities for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
LO 1.1.2 List and describe the use of different types of PPE to protect the eyes, ears, face, head, hands, arms, feet, and legs.
LO 1.2.1 List and give examples of hazards that may require the use of respiratory protection.
LO 1.2.2 Describe the features and advantages of each of the 4 major types of respirators: air-purifying respirators, tight-fitting respirators, loose-fitting respirators, and atmosphere-supplying respirators.
LO 1.2.3 Discuss the selection and maintenance of respirators, filters, cartridges, and canisters.
LO 1.3.1 Describe lifesaving fall protection equipment to protect against falls.
LO 1.4.1 Discuss safety requirements for the use of lifesaving equipment while working over water.
