Course Description

This course is part of the OSH Center 10- and 30-Hour Training Program for General Industry. It is designed to introduce both management and employees to the seven key elements of a Safety and Health Management Program. This course emphasizes the steps involved in designing, developing, and deploying these seven elements to help ensure a safer work environment.

Course Objectives

TO 1.0 Achieve a minimum score of 70% on the final course assessment.
LO 1.1.1 Identify the seven core elements of an effective safety management system (SMS).
LO 1.1.2 Describe the importance of effective leadership at all levels of management.
LO 1.1.3 Discuss why it is important for employees to be involved in all aspects of safety.
LO 1.1.4 Describe procedures for hazard identification, and system analysis and evaluation.
LO 1.1.5 Describe the importance of education, instruction, and hands-on training.
LO 1.1.6 Discuss the importance of effective communication and coordination on multi-employer worksites.
LO 1.1.7 Describe and give examples of “continuous improvement” in the workplace.
LO 1.2.1 Discuss important actions management can take to develop and maintain the four main components of a safety management system.
LO 1.3.1 Describe how to set safety and health as a core corporate value – not just a priority.
