Use and Orientation of Equipment

Description

Examination Room – Potential Hazards

  1. Narrow doorways
    • Frequent turning and repositioning of patients and equipment.
    • Requires extra force, increasing risk of strain or injury.
  2. Inappropriate flooring or transitions
    • Thick carpet or elevated transitions make pushing/pulling equipment difficult.
    • Can increase force needed, leading to overexertion injuries.
  3. Small or rigidly arranged rooms
    • Limited space prevents optimal positioning of patient and equipment.
    • Repetitive postures and motions for prolonged periods stress shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands.
  4. Poor lighting
    • Lack of adjustable lighting or dimmer controls makes monitors difficult to read.
    • May cause eye strain, and lead to leaning or awkward postures affecting back and neck.
