HAZWOPER for General Site Workers – Course Introduction
This course is the first in a ten-course series that comprises the 40-hour HAZWOPER for General Site Workers certificate program, in accordance with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120.
The course focuses on the requirements for each of the three types of HAZWOPER operations:
- Cleanup operations
- Treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facility operations
- Emergency response operations
OSHA Requirements
The 40-hour HAZWOPER program is a two-phase process:
- 40 hours of off-site instruction – completed through OSHAcademy online training.
- 3 days of worksite-specific, hands-on practice – provided by the employer at the job site.
Online training fulfills the first phase, while the employer is responsible for providing the second, hands-on phase.
Time Requirement
OSHA Standard 1910.120 requires completion of 40 hours of off-site training. OSHAcademy divides the program into ten courses, each with a minimum time requirement that must be met before accessing the course exam.

IACET Accreditation
OSHA Center is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and offers IACET CEUs for courses that meet ANSI/IACET standards. IACET is recognized globally for promoting the quality of continuing education and training.
Free Access
Students have free access to all training materials, including knowledge checks and course activities. Documentation of training—such as exam scores, certificates, and transcripts—is available through the purchase of a certificate package.
