This course is the first in a ten-course series that makes up the 40-hour HAZWOPER for General Site Workers certificate program, in accordance with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120.
The course focuses on the requirements for the three types of HAZWOPER operations:
- Cleanup operations
- Treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facility operations
- Emergency response operations
OSHA Requirements
The 40-hour HAZWOPER program is a two-phase process:
- 40 hours of off-site instruction – provided via OSHAcademy online training.
- 3 days of worksite-specific, hands-on practice – conducted at the job site by the employer.
Online training fulfills the first phase, while employers are responsible for the second phase.
Time Requirement
OSHA Standard 1910.120 requires students to complete 40 hours of off-site training. The OSHAcademy program divides this into ten courses, each with a minimum time requirement that must be met before taking the course exam.
- This course requires a minimum of 3 hours.
- Students can monitor their progress using the timer located at the top-left corner of each page.
