Exposure Control Plan (ECP)
To minimize or eliminate occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, employers must implement a written Exposure Control Plan (ECP) detailing measures to protect employees.

Under OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030(c), the ECP is required to eliminate or reduce employee exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Employer Responsibilities Include:
- Use engineered sharps injury prevention devices wherever possible.
- Maintain a Sharps Injury Log to track incidents.
- Develop a written Exposure Control Plan (ECP) that is accessible to employees.
Exposure Determination:
The ECP must include a detailed exposure determination, listing:
- Job classifications in which all employees have occupational exposure.
- Job classifications in which some employees have occupational exposure.
- Specific procedures that may expose employees to bloodborne pathogens.
