Roof and Gutter Maintenance
A school roof is a critical component of the building’s waterproofing system. Its primary functions are to protect the building from weather elements like rain, sun, and wind, and to prevent water from entering the structure. Proper maintenance of the roof and gutters is essential to ensure they perform effectively.
Gutter Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Gutters should be cleaned frequently to remove leaves, debris, and plant or tree droppings.
- Inspection: Check gutters for pinhole leaks, rusted sections, or broken brackets. Down-spout pipes, also called leaders, should be intact without rust, holes, or damage.
- Proper Water Flow: Ensure rainwater flows freely through gutters and down-spouts. Gutters should be sloped toward the down-spouts for correct drainage. Improper alignment must be corrected promptly.
- Down-Spout Placement: Never allow water from an upper down-spout to pour directly onto a lower roof. Connect upper-story down-spouts to lower-level gutters to manage water safely.
