Employee Rights and Protections

Description

Your Rights to Stay Safe from Heat Stress

You have the right to protect yourself from heat stress while working in hot conditions. This includes taking rest breaks, drinking cool water, and accessing shaded or air-conditioned areas:

  • Rest Breaks: You are entitled to frequent breaks, especially during the hottest periods of the day. These breaks help your body cool down, reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses, and maintain productivity.
  • Access to Water: Your employer must provide ample cool drinking water on-site. You should have access to at least one quart (32 ounces) per hour to stay properly hydrated.
  • Shade and Cool Areas: Your employer must ensure shaded or air-conditioned areas are available for resting during breaks. These areas should be easily accessible and provide a comfortable environment to cool down.

Take full advantage of these rights to stay safe, healthy, and effective while working in hot conditions.
