Introduction

Description

This is the sixth course in the ten-course series that forms the 40-hour HAZWOPER for General Site Workers Certificate Program, developed in accordance with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120.

This course provides a detailed understanding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements for hazardous waste operations and emergency response. It focuses on:

  • The types and functions of PPE
  • Selection of appropriate protective ensembles (Levels A, B, C, or D) based on site hazards
  • Proper use, inspection, care, and maintenance of PPE
  • Recognition and prevention of heat and cold stress while wearing chemical protective clothing (CPC)

OSHA Requirements

The 40-hour HAZWOPER training consists of two distinct phases:

  1. 40 hours of off-site instruction, and
  2. 3 days of worksite-specific, hands-on field practice

OSHAcademy’s online training fulfills the first phase of this requirement.
Employers are responsible for ensuring that employees complete the second phase, which involves practical, supervised field experience at the worksite.

Time Requirement

According to OSHA Standard 1910.120, students must complete a total of 40 hours of off-site training as part of the HAZWOPER program.
OSHAcademy divides this program into ten individual courses, each with a minimum time requirement that must be met before the course exam becomes available.

  • Minimum time requirement for this course: 5 hours
You can track your progress using the course timer displayed in the top-left corner of each training page.
